Esta obra-instalación está conformada por una serie de maquetas cerámicas a escala de varios edificios, presentados en una mesa hecha a medida, acompañado por un par de carteles de azulejos de grandes dimensiones colgados en la pared. Los diferentes elementos que comportan la instalación se articulan entre ellos, es decir se relacionan englobados como conjunto que se explicita con el título de la obra Particular del Norte, nombre de la calle bilbaína donde se erigen las arquitecturas y carteles presentado.
La calle Particular del Norte nace a finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX, con un perfil y una estructura comercial que se relaciona con el ferrocarril, denominándose en origen Particular de Bailén
En el año 2016 a pesar de su apariencia de abandono, la calle y sus edificios aún permanecían en uso, pero en su mayoría albergaban otras actividades diferentes a las originales y muchos de ellos permanecían cerrados, desde trabajadores de ADIF —administrador de infraestructuras ferroviarias—, trabajadores de compañías de alquiler devehículos, sindicalistas, entre otros. La mayoría de los edificios que se conservan se construyeron entre los años 30 y 50 del siglo XX, y el único de los edificios que conservaba su uso originario es el de Bodegas Bilbaínas que alberga todavía las oficinas de dicha empresa
El proyecto pretende ser una puesta en valor de este legado que perdura y se deteriora a la espera de ser derribado o transformado en un nuevo equipamiento que permita dinamizar los planes de transformación urbana de dicha área la estación ferroviaria de Abando Indalecio Prieto. Cabe destacar que las intenciones de preservación de estos edificios me llevaron incluso un año antes, a afrontar una operación de mantenimiento y reparación del edificio junto a mis compañeros de taller.
La obra Particular del Norte fue galardonada con el 2º premio en la XXXV edición de la Muestra Itinerante de Artes Visuales ERTIBIL 2017 organizada por la Diputación Foral de Bizkaia, siendo expuesta en la Sala Rekalde de Bilbao del 16 de junio al 10 de septiembre, y en los municipios de Lekeitio en la sala Barandiaran, en Leioa en la sala de expo- siciones en Kultur Leioa, en Basauri en la Torre de Ariz, en Bermeo en la sala Néstor Basterretxea y por último en la sala municipal de exposiciones de Barakaldo. Anteriormente fue seleccionada y expuesta en GetxoArte, Salón de Prácticas Contemporáneas en 2016 bajo el título Particular del Norte. Estructuras de memoria urbana, del 4 al 6 de Noviembre en la carpa de la plaza de la Estación de Las Arenas en Getxo.
This work-installation is made up of a series of scale ceramic models of various buildings, presented on a made-to-measure table, accompanied by a pair of large-scale tile posters hung on the wall. The different elements that make up the installation are articulated among themselves, that is to say, they are related as a whole, which is made explicit by the title of the work Particular del Norte, the name of the street in Bilbao where the architectures and posters presented are erected.
The street Particular del Norte was born at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, with a profile and a commercial structure related to the railway, originally called Particular de Bailén.
In 2016, despite its appearance of abandonment, the street and its buildings were still in use, but most of them housed other activities different from the original ones and many of them remained closed, from workers of ADIF -administrator of railway infrastructures-, workers of car rental companies, trade unionists, among others. Most of the buildings that remain were built between the 1930s and 1950s, and the only building that retained its original use is that of Bodegas Bilbaínas, which still houses the company’s offices.
The project aims to enhance the value of this legacy, which is still standing and deteriorating, waiting to be demolished or transformed into a new facility to boost the urban transformation plans for the Abando Indalecio Prieto railway station area. It is worth noting that the intentions of preserving these buildings led me, even a year earlier, to undertake a maintenance and repair operation on the building together with my workshop colleagues.
